It has come to our attention that one of our students at George W. Bush Elementary School has been diagnosed with H1N1 influenza. Understandably, many parents are greatly concerned about a potential outbreak among our students and staff.
Our Superintendent has been in constant contact with the County Health Department as well as the City for the latest health related updates. Our maintenance and custodial personnel have been taking extra precautions to disinfect community areas such as bathrooms, keyboards, doorknobs, and school buses.
Presently, the County Department of Health and Human Services does not recommend a school closure for confirmed or probable cases.
Please help us by asking your children to take extra precautions, such as not eating or drinking after anyone else and washing their hands often. If your children show symptoms of any type of influenza, I encourage you to have them tested at their physician's office or the local health clinic and keep them at home until they have been symptom free for at least twenty-four hours without medication.

Our school district will continue to monitor the situation closely. We appreciate your support and understanding.
